Addressing Harmful Distant Water Fishing

2022

Developed and led a series of virtual Conservation International workshops to build research partnerships in Peru, Liberia, and the Solomon Islands in order to answer salient questions that will inform actionable change pathways to improve social and environmental safeguards in the distant water fishing sector.

Real Good Fish Business Development

2020

Facilitated the development of a 5-year strategic plan for Real Good Fish, a direct-to-consumer seafood business, with milestones, activities, and deliverable tracking. Supported the implementation of the strategy by applying for federal grants and cultivating new partnerships to support regional expansion.

Decent Work in Fisheries Initiative

2020

Launched and coordinated an applied, joint research initiative on decent work in fisheries with Conservation International and partners from the Minderoo Foundation, Global Fishing Watch, UCSB, Seafood Watch, University of Nottingham’s Rights Lab, and the Nippon Foundation. Improving Small-Scale Fishery Monitoring

2019

Worked alongside Real Good Fish, EDF, and local fishermen to revitalize the small-scale hook and line rockfish fishery in Monterey Bay, using exempted fishing permits (EFP) to trial a new gear type and test electronic monitoring technology to create alternatives for fisheries where human observers are economically infeasible.

Overfishing & Human Rights Abuses

2019

Developed and facilitated an expert working group convening in San Francisco, CA to build a set of shared research methodologies for better understanding the connections between overfishing and human rights in global fisheries. The participants forged new partnerships, drafted concept notes and preliminary work plans. Download report →

Pacific Catalyst Strategic Planning

2016

Advised and facilitated strategic planning sessions with the Pacific Catalyst partnership from the early stages of the initiative to determine the mission, set goals, and do yearly planning sessions to inform work plans and fundraising priorities.

Allocating Rights in Fisheries

2017

French Polynesia Lagoon Fisheries Plan

2018

Designed and facilitated an educational and strategy-building workshop for the French Polynesian Ministry of Fisheries to guide future implementation of fishery legislative reforms that would enable effective lagoon fishery co-management across the country’s 118 islands.
